A man has been jailed for three months for selling a fake prescription medication to help people with erectile dysfunction.
Brisdel Hungary police said a 23-year-old man from Hungary was sentenced to three months in prison and fined €25,000 after he supplied fake Viagra to an undercover operation.
Brisdel Hungary Police said he bought the fake Viagra from a pharmacy in his home, from where he sold the medication to customers at the pharmacy without them knowing.
The police said the fake Viagra could have been bought from the pharmacy at the site.
The operation was launched from May 2021.
It was unclear how long it will take for the investigation to be complete.
It is believed the fake Viagra was sold in the pharmacy and was bought without a doctor's prescription. The drug could have been bought from the pharmacy by the person's own hands.
The court heard that a man from Hungary was arrested on suspicion of sale of counterfeit medicines to people from the UK, which is not a common practice in the UK.
He has pleaded not guilty and will lose his case to the court on Wednesday.
The court heard that Biskshe Khera - a UK based pharmacist - bought the fake Viagra on behalf of a patient without a prescription from a pharmacy in the UK.
The patient said he was taking the medicine to treat a condition in his back with a side effect which was also caused by a drug from another country.
He said: "I had no idea what the product was.
"I had no idea the medicine was counterfeit.
"My wife was in pain and I was worried about what could be done. I had no idea this could be a case of someone making money on their prescriptions. But my husband was worried. I was worried because he had no idea what the product was and could be bought without a doctor's prescription.
"I was desperate and I wanted to talk to my wife about it, but I couldn't."
The court heard that Biskshe Khera said he did not know about the fake product and that the patient did not give his name.
The court heard that the patient, who was aged 19, bought the fake Viagra from his pharmacy and sold it without a prescription.
He said: "I did not have a prescription, because I had no idea who it was for."
The court heard that the patient, who had not yet given his name, had told him the fake medication could have been bought by the person's own hands.
Biskshe Khera said: "The patient did not want to be harmed, because he was not sure what the product was.
"I bought the medication without a prescription because I was not sure what the product was."
He added: "This product was sold without a prescription and that is why it was not authentic.
He added: "I felt that this product was not authentic."I couldn't help but think it was a crime.
"I have to say that I'm very angry with the court."
